Chris Wheeler photographs collection [graphic], circa 1910-1967.

This collection contains photographs collected by Chris Wheeler during his service as the State Engineer for Oregon from 1962-1975. Loose photographs depict waterways across the state of Oregon circa 1910-1925, including the construction of irrigation canals and the Tumalo Dam in conjunction with the state's Tumalo Irrigation Project in Deschutes County, Or. in 1913-1915. There are also color slides that depict dams and reservoirs in Oregon from 1950-1967. Additionally, four albums contain photographs documenting the irrigation efforts of the Central Oregon Irrigation Company, the Deschutes Land Company Project, the Klamath Project, the Umatilla Project, and other irrigation projects in Oregon from 1912-circa 1922, including one album containing official photographs of the Tumalo Irrigation Project in 1913-1914; photographs collected by Oregon State Engineer John H. Lewis that depict canals, flumes, and dams across Oregon and a steamboat trip down the Snake and Columbia Rivers, among other subjects, taken circa 1914-1915; and other photographs of rivers and bridges in Oregon, including those along the Columbia River Highway. Many of the photographs in this collection were likely taken or collected by previous Oregon State Engineers, including John H. Lewis (Oregon State Engineer from 1905-1918) and Percy A. Cupper (Oregon State Engineer from 1918-1922); Lewis and Cupper's names appear on the backs of many of the photographs in the albums. The collection also includes one film negative and one panoramric photograph. Other photographers include Benjamin Gifford and Angelus Commercial Studio of Portland, Or.
